Job Summary

This position provides peri-operative and general nursing care for patients in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures, licensure, and scope of practice.
Responsibilities include:
- Completes pre-operative and admission interviews and establishes nursing priorities with plan of care. Communicates findings to the anesthesia provider for development of H&P.
- Utilizes the nursing process in providing care and includes the process in documentation, identifying unusual conditions, and utilizing initiative and judgment to carry out appropriate response.
- Receives, transcribes, and executes physician orders and communicates to others, as needed, for continuity of care.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments and patient specific care to patient in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
- Assesses patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents throughout the progression of care.
- Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital policy including instruction to the patient, family and others, as identified.
- Provides post-operative nursing care to include Phase II recovery, evaluation of post-anesthesia criteria for discharge, discharge planning, post-discharge interview and appropriate referral as needed.

Qualifications
Graduate of an approved Registered Nurse Program. Previous experience desirable.
Holds or is eligible for current licensure in the State of South Dakota.
