Job description
Purpose
To facilitate an encouraging learning environment for all students in the absence of their regular teacher. To follow provided lesson plans and facilitate positive interactions with students and staff members in accordance with the PLISD handbook.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
Required
- High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics in accordance to instructions provided
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
Experience
Some experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Support
- Provide instruction to students under the direction of teachers provisions
- Help maintain neat and orderly classroom
- Assist in administrative records and prepare required reports
Student Management
- Supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom
- Make teacher aware of events of the day including student behavior and participation
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Provide regular availability updates

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise
