JOB SUMMARY
As a key member of the Accounting team, the Operations Accountant requires the skills necessary to successfully complete month end processes while leading the accounting staff through close. Reviews and manages operations balance sheet accounts and the income statement for the Company monthly and prepares the Companies’ financial reporting packages for senior management. The Operational Accountant ensures correct well cost accounting including month end allocations, overhead, property tax, and insurance. The candidate will have primary responsibility for managing the Company’s Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) process, including administering the AFE workflow system, creating new AFEs in the accounting system and completing all required monitoring controls associated with the AFE program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts including effectively analyzing and summarizing account information.
  • Prepare monthly capital and operating expense accruals.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records of all materials movements and inventory.
  • Setup, maintain and monitor AFEs in both accounting system and AFE workflow system.
  • Effectively communicate with operations personnel to keep informed of operational activity.
  • Perform coding reviews and manage necessary corrections.
  • Provide ad hoc operational cost analysis based on business needs.
  • Calculate and charge appropriate overhead in accordance with joint operating agreements.
  • Design, implement and maintain various spreadsheets/databases for tracking and reporting purposes.
  • Process and reconcile non operated joint interest billing.
  • Assist with year-end, internal and Joint-Venture audits.
  • Fixed asset processing and reporting including maintenance of system fixed asset module.
  • Perform complex coding and allocation of costs for well related accounting.
  • Document accounting and process procedures.
  • Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Responds to inquiries regarding financial results and special reporting requests
  • Assists in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
  • Responsible for operation accruals related to Capital & LOE
  • Oversees & approves weekly check run
  • OpenInvoice maintenance & Support, Pricebook Admin
  • Responsible for review of monthly reconciliations
  • Responsible for the preparation and interpretation of financial and operational reports to support senior management
  • Acts as a liaison between the Finance, Operational and Management teams to facilitate effective communication and execution of objectives
  • Manages Operations Accounting group & Production Accounting group
  • Oversees Production Operations – reviews oil & gas tie outs, and oversees production close each month
  • Ensures Production & Revenue Accounting work together to ensure accrual accuracy and accurate reporting
  • Oversees vendor audits
  • Ensures production is reported to the State timely and accurately
  • Oversees inventory management and material transfers
  • Provides training to new and existing staff as needed
  • Coordinates with auditors to ensure timely quarterly and yearend audits
  • Prepares weekly Cash Forecast for Capital Expenditures
  • Assists with the annual budget process for Capital and LOE
  • Assists with reserves each quarter for Capital and LOE
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Advanced Excel spreadsheet skills
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., BOLO) is preferred
  • Ability to compile data and generate reports/schedules from one or multiple databases
  • Strong general accounting knowledge which requires a thorough understanding of bookkeeping procedures, accrual based accounting and related financial reports
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Preferred experience with Power BI
  • Ability to reconcile and analyze complex general ledger accounts
  • Ability to verify mathematical accuracy and completeness of documents
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other relevant areas required. CPA is a plus but not required.
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience
  • Oil & Gas experience related operational accounting and understanding of COPAS strongly preferred
