Job Title: School Social Worker – STARS (Autism) Program
Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced School Social Worker to support students in the STARS (Autism) Program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education, social-emotional support, and working with students with autism and other special needs. This role involves providing direct services to students, collaborating with families and staff, and connecting students with resources to support their academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth. The Social Worker will play a key role in promoting student well-being, implementing intervention strategies, and advocating for students and families within the school and community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group social-emotional support to students in the STARS Program.
- Develop and implement behavioral and intervention plans in collaboration with special education teachers and support staff.
- Conduct social skills training and self-regulation strategies tailored to students with autism and related disabilities.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and administrators to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations and support.
- Facilitate communication between families, school teams, and community resources to address students' academic, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Assist in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, including assessments, goal setting, and progress monitoring.
- Provide crisis intervention and support students with emotional regulation, coping strategies, and problem-solving skills.
- Advocate for students’ rights and access to services, ensuring compliance with special education laws and best practices.
- Offer training and professional development for staff and families on autism-related strategies, behavior management, and social-emotional development.
- Maintain accurate documentation and case notes in alignment with district and state requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Social Worker Endorsement required.
- Experience working with students with autism and special education needs preferred.
- Strong knowledge of behavioral interventions, sensory needs, and social-emotional learning strategies for students with autism.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, provide crisis intervention, and navigate challenging situations with professionalism.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Zones of Regulation, and restorative practices.
- Experience supporting students with communication needs, including AAC devices and alternative communication strategies.
- Knowledge of community resources and support services for students with disabilities and their families.
