JOB SUMMARY
To transport students to and from school and other sites within designated route(s) and to ensure the safety of the student passengers while in a school vehicle. This job class is responsible for the safe operation of a school van and for ensuring the safety of student passengers while meeting established bus schedules.
JOB FUNCTION
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
- Operate a school van by assessing traffic and road conditions, monitoring student behavior and other factors necessary to safely deliver student passengers to and from school by adhering to state laws and school district policies.
- Obey all traffic laws
- Maintain a clean and mechanically sound vehicle at all times by sweeping and dusting the interior daily
- Ensure the safety of all students
- Enforce conduct and safety rules on the van
- Assist students with getting on and off the van as needed
- Communicate all route changes and hazards to the appropriate office staff personnel
- Communicate to mechanics all defects and maintenance needs. Performs post-trip inspection to check for vandalism, lost articles or sleeping students.
- Perform inspections of the bus before and after each route as required by law to assure proper vehicle working condition. Maintains all safety equipment.
- Attend safety meetings as required
- Assists with facilities maintenance during non-driving hours
- Performs tasks as apparent or assigned
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma/GED preferred
- Class D license
- One or more years of experience
- Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations within the last five years
- Two or more years of experience working with children preferred
- Ability to carry out assigned route on time
- Demonstrate respect for children, colleagues, parents and school leadership.
- Believe in and support the vision and mission of PSA.
- Must be able to pass drug screening
