Position Summary
Provides knowledgeable information in all areas of communication regarding College programming and functions to the public as well as internal personnel. Interacts with campus police, custodial service, physical facilities, instructors and students through the switchboard and counter in a manner providing knowledgeable and efficient service. Works independently and efficiently following predefined procedures with a high degree of accuracy and speed.
Reporting and Supervisory Relationships
Direct reporting relationship to the Manager, Welcome Center.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Receives incoming calls at the switchboard, relays calls to the proper party as requested.
2. Operates a two-way radio for the receipt and transmittal of messages between switchboard, campus police, physical facilities and custodial services.
3. Takes messages for faculty, other staff and students.
4. Reacts to emergency situations by notifying proper authorities and college personnel.
5. Provides general college information at the counter and via the Welcome Center telephone.
6. Provides keys and cards to various classrooms and labs using a log-in system and computer programming.
7. Accepts and disburses lost and found items and items from instructors and students to be given to a second party.
8. Receives requests for long distance calls, logs information as to person placing call and number requested, places call and clears equipment for connection of parties.
9. Operates the computer when needed to assist students in finding classes and instructors; provides room availability to instructors and physical facilities.
10. Operates a computer program to create ID cards for faculty, staff, and students.
11. Performs other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the department consistent with the role of this position.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently / constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. One year experience as a switchboard operator, receptionist, or customer service representative.
3. Demonstrated ability to work quickly and efficiently, especially in response to emergency situations.
4. Demonstrated excellent verbal communication skills, including ability to use proper grammar with a well-modulated, clear and easily understood voice.
5. Demonstrated typing and computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Prior knowledge of the functions and operations of the PSC Welcome Center.
2. Prior exposure to a higher education institution as a student or through work experience.
3. Associates degree or higher in a field related to the functions of the PSC Welcome Center.
4. Fluent in Spanish.
