Job Description
The Associate Professor or Professor & Associate Dean provides leadership and support for the academic unit of the College. The individual will work closely with the Department Head and also assist the Dean as needed with academic-related matters including student success, promotion and tenure decisions, and is responsible for quality assurance of administrative matters handled by the office. The ideal candidate should be student-centered, strategic and creative, collaborative, and have a robust track record of academic accomplishments, including teaching, advising and mentoring, curriculum development, recruitment and retention, and student success initiatives.
Responsibilities :
- Develop strategies, in consultation with the Dean, for allocation of resources, management, and support structures to implement the College's strategic action plan and enforce policies for education and resulting improvements in metrics for student admission, retention, graduation, and career development including experiential learning. Curriculum expansion, new delivery modalities, and enrollment growth for both undergraduate and graduate programs are immediate priorities. Make recommendations to the Dean on all academic matters especially those pertaining to students and curricula. Represent the College at various committee meetings and functions; supervise administrative and support staff and work with the Department Head to establish faculty committees in areas including recruitment, retention, scholarships, and development. Maintain currency and compliance with guidelines for all functioning committees. Promote faculty governance and student-centeredness.
- Oversee and assist with the coordination of curriculum / degree plans for the College of Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources to ensure currency and degree relevancy. Coordinate and actively participate in student recruitment and retention programs to ensure successful enrollment targets. Work closely with the Department Head to monitor semester course offerings in terms of faculty assignment, enrollment numbers, number of offerings, time of offerings, and size of classes. Help coordinate, investigate and resolve faculty and student complaints. Develop and maintain a public information and support system for and among alumni of the College. If time and interest permit, teach undergraduate level courses in the College. Work effectively with the Executive Associate Director of Research, and with the Executive Associate Director of Extension to facilitate student success and mission integration.
- Assist the Dean in administration of the academic budget and procedures relating to the academic mission of the College's financial operations, including reporting and policy implementation. Ensure that administrative matters are carried out effectively and efficiently. Collect data and assemble information concerning enrollment trends and other key metrics which can be used to inform better decisions. Promote the image and brand of the College to alumni, donors, and other stakeholders. Help develop funding opportunities for faculty, administration, and staff, and coordinate accreditation studies and activities. In collaboration with other mission area leaders (research and extension, respectively), coordinate research and outreach efforts to include grant / proposal submissions and compliance. Work closely with the Department Head and Dean to monitor and mentor tenure-track faculty and promote a culture of success.
- Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, committees and performs other duties as deemed necessary.
