POSITION : Data Science Engineering Internship
LOCATION : Shreveport, LA
DIVISION : Paper Mills
DURATION : 10 to 12 Weeks (May 2024 through August 2024)
SUMMARY :
The Data Science Engineering Intern will be responsible for utilizing the mill's analytical software, Seeq, providing accurate and concise reports in support of product development and quality assurance. The goal of the internship is for the intern to become educated on the processes within the paper mills, using the knowledge gained to improve the process and end product. You can expect a local champion to provide mentorship and guidance throughout the internship. An intern project and presentation at Conyers, GA towards the end of the internship will be required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Follow safe practices at all times
- Learn how to use Seeq
- Look at optimization practices and processes additive usages
- Perform continuous assessment of product quality and operational efficiencies
- Assist team to resolve operating problems with process, maintenance, and plant engineering support
- Conduct statistical studies for operation review
- Must learn to quickly analyze data
- Assist in writing standard operating procedures and training manuals
- Provide engineering support to other departments as needed
- Present to the department periodically and at the end of the internship
- Any additional duties as assigned.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS :

Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
LANGUAGE SKILLS :
The candidate must speak and write English at a college level.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :
The candidate must be able to understand and use simple conversions and algebraic formulas.
REASONING ABILITY :
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Manufacturing environment and will be subject to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, and loud noises.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Positions in this class typically require : climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, typing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS :
Employee will be measured on the performance goals established by the internship program overview.
