Job Description
The Warehouse Supervisor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and safe handling, shipping, and receiving of materials within the warehouse. This position leads a team of warehouse staff, including forklift operators, to guarantee timely and accurate delivery of products to customers.
Daily Operations Management:
- Lead and supervise warehouse activities: Shipping, receiving, picking/packing, and breakdown line operations are managed by the Warehouse Supervisor. Daily schedules dictate all tasks, ensuring smooth execution.
- Material Handling: Overseeing the loading and unloading of products is critical, with a focus on proper handling and organization of materials daily.
- Inventory Control: The Warehouse Supervisor assists with cycle counts and inventory management to ensure accurate stock levels. Discrepancies are resolved through collaboration with the team.
- Forklift Supervision: Training forklift operators in efficient and safe loading practices is essential, meeting customer expectations for product handling.
- Equipment Maintenance: Coordinating repairs for trucks, trailers, forklifts, dock plates, and dock doors is crucial, with timely completion of maintenance work orders.
- Order Coordination: Collaboration with Shipping & Receiving Coordinators and Order Processors ensures timely and accurate shipment and delivery of customer orders.
- Communication & Reporting: Clear communication with upper management is maintained to report any issues impacting department performance. Daily/weekly updates are prepared for department progress and production goals.
- Safety & Compliance: Leading daily/weekly safety and production meetings ensures all warehouse activities adhere to company policies, OSHA regulations, and safety standards.
- Team Leadership: Fostering high morale within the department requires demonstrating fairness, consistency, and strong leadership. Conflicts are resolved confidentially, and employee concerns are addressed supportively.
- Continuous Improvement: Recommending and implementing process improvements optimizes productivity, cost efficiency, and product quality.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Direct supervision of all employees within the warehouse department, including forklift operators, shipping/receiving staff, and other warehouse personnel.
- Planning, assigning, and directing work, as well as managing performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions.
- Conflict resolution, team-building, and maintaining a positive work environment.
- Setting an example of exemplary behavior, attitude, and performance for the team.
Education and Experience:
- Preferred:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Forklift Operator and/or Truck Driver.
- Minimum of two years of prior supervisory experience in a warehouse or production environment.
- At least one year of experience in shipping and receiving operations.
- Experience in the corrugated box industry or similar manufacturing environment.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Capable of writing routine reports and correspondence.
- Must be able to speak effectively with employees, customers, and management.
- Mathematical Skills:
- Proficiency in basic arithmetic and the ability to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
- Able to calculate figures such as percentages, measurements, and rates.
- Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
- Ability to solve problems in standardized situations with concrete variables.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of warehouse equipment design and capabilities.
- Ability to identify areas for improvement and implement cost-saving measures.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, OSHA standards, and waste minimization practices.
- Certifications:
- Must possess or be willing to obtain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, or hear.
- Frequently required to use hands to handle or feel objects and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
