Reports Program Director of Social Services

Job Summary:
The Housing Specialist, utilizing all possible resources, assists relevant clients and Praxis residents to identify and secure appropriate permanent housing, prepares residents for maintaining that housing by honing independent living skills, and assists the client in moving into that housing, once secured.
Duties:
- Develops and maintains housing resources to assist clients in securing appropriate permanent housing.
- Works with clients to ensure that they are appropriately equipped for the housing search and for maintaining the housing that they find.
- Cultivates relationships with prospective landlords, brokers, and management companies that result in appropriate listings for clients to consider for permanent placements.
- Conducts outreach activities to recruit new clients, landlords, brokers, and management companies.
- Identifies apartments for client placement that meet safety and health standards of the City of New York, and escorts clients to apartment viewings.
- Helps with negotiation of leases and the securing and maintaining of funding streams.
- Ensures that landlords outfit all apartments with requisite working equipment and appliances.
- Conducts housing workshops for clients.
- Maintains up-to-date charts to reflect the client’s status in the housing process.
- Monitors housing activities that relate to the ongoing landlord/tenant relationship.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- One late night a week is required.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required, college degree preferred.
Experience:
Experience in housing placement, outreach and/or entitlements in a client-centered setting. Experience working with people who are HIV and AIDS preferred. Knowledge of Human Rights and Disability Laws as they relate to housing, a plus.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $47,000.00 per year
