At the Recuperative Care Program, Preble Street works in partnership with Greater Portland Health and Maine Medical Center in an innovative program that provides medical services and social services to people experiencing homelessness who have been discharged from hospital care, offering a safe, supportive environment in which to recover.
Preble Street has open Client Support Staff positions at the RCP with overnight shift schedules. With a harm reduction approach in an environment grounded in social work and medical best practices, Client Support Staff support clients receiving medical and behavioral health care in their continued recovery by engaging with clients and providing direct services, maintaining a safe environment, providing staff coverage in the program, and assisting with case management activities.
Available Schedule: Wednesday-Saturday, 10:00pm-8:00am
Qualifications
Qualifications include education in social work or related field of study and experience in direct service provision to people experiencing homelessness, or a combination of work experience, education, and/or training likely to provide the skills, knowledge, and ability to perform the work of the Client Support Staff. Also required are an understanding of and alignment with Preble Street’s mission, positive regard for individuals accessing services for homelessness and poverty, and a commitment to providing low-barrier services.
Additional requirements include strong communication, de-escalation, and crisis intervention skills; familiarity with community resources; understanding of harm reduction approaches; ability to engage with and maintain professional boundaries with diverse populations; and the ability to work as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.
Client Support Staff are required to remain awake for the duration of shifts and to work during evening, overnight, and weekend hours, with regular and consistent attendance.
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly rate of pay for this full-time (40 hours/week) position is $22.45 per hour. As a direct service position in a 24/7 program, this position is eligible for shift differentials of $1.00 per hour for all hours actually worked between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00pm or $2.00 per hour for all hours actually worked between the hours of 10:00 pm and 7:00 am.
