Description
Based in Portland, Maine, and offering services statewide, Preble Street’s low-barrier, client-centered programs provide casework, housing, shelter, food, and other essential services to people in our community experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty, while advocating for long-term solutions to these problems.
Preble Street is seeking a Communications Manager to manage a diverse portfolio of communications and engagement strategies, assist with media and donor relations, and develop and execute communications plans and strategies. In collaboration with the Senior Director of Communications, the Communications Manager will generate, distribute, and maintain branded agency materials, assist in creating collateral for programs and activities, manage incoming media inquiries, support strategies to build and grow Preble Street’s social media and website traffic, and build relationships with program staff and clients to proactively source stories of program impact in alignment with the agency’s Ethical Storytelling model for use in agency communications, advocacy, and development work.
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position with a Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm schedule, with evening and weekend hours as needed.
Qualifications
Qualifications for the position include a bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field with 3-5 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field OR a combination of work experience and relevant education and training likely to be successful in the position.
A commitment to the agency mission is required. The successful candidate will also have strong writing and editing skills; the ability to balance multiple deadlines in a fast-paced working environment while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and effectiveness; experience with social media and digital communications; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Compensation and Benefits
This full-time position offers an hourly rate of $ 28.19/hour, which annualizes to $ 58,639.88 as well as generous paid time off, insurance, and retirement plan benefits include:
- 4 weeks (160 hours, accrued) vacation time, 12 days (96 hours, accrued) sick time, 32 hours personal time, 12 Paid Holidays
