With numerous and diverse programs providing services to people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty in Maine, Preble Street is a dynamic, innovative, and progressive nonprofit organization with over 300 staff who work every day to fulfill the agency’s mission. Preble Street’s highly collaborative HR team is seeking a Senior Director of Employee Relations, Training & Staff Development.
This hands-on leadership role provides senior-level oversight of a wide range of HR functions, ensuring alignment with Preble Street’s mission and values. As a key member of both the collaborative HR team and the senior management team, the role leads Employee Relations strategy, strengthens training and staff development programs, provides guidance to the HR team, and supervises assigned staff. The position reports to the Deputy Director.
Qualifications
This senior management role requires a solid foundation of HR experience, knowledge, and skills: significant, direct experience with progressive responsibilities in all or nearly all aspects of the full HR scope of responsibilities is essential for this position. This includes extensive experience in Employee Relations and Training & Development. Success in this role also requires strong organizational and management skills; a compliance-minded orientation; exceptional critical thinking skills; an understanding of Preble Street’s social justice mission.
We encourage applications from candidates with a combination of practical human resources experience and relevant education and training. Preferred qualifications include a graduate degree in business or law, along with progressive experience in human resources management, particularly in employee relations and training & development.
Familiarity with U.S. and Maine employment and labor laws and regulations, staff supervision and management experience, SHRM certification, and experience in social services or nonprofit organizations are also highly desirable.
The Senior Director of Employee Relations, Training & Staff Development will work onsite during regular business hours. Remote work is available up to 16 hours per week.
Compensation
This full-time, salaried position offers competitive compensation of $90,000 annualized. Generous paid time off, insurance, and retirement plan benefits include:
• 4 weeks/160 hours (accrued) vacation time, 12 days/96 hours (accrued) sick time, 4 days/32 hours personal time, 12 paid holidays
