Job Title: Head Teacher – Infant/Toddler Room

Location: Precious Kids Too
Position Type: Full-time: 8am-5pm with 1 hour lunch

Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Head Teacher to join our team in the Infant/Toddler Room at [Daycare Name]. The Head Teacher will be responsible for overseeing and implementing developmentally appropriate care and educational practices for children ages 6 weeks to 3 years. This individual will create a nurturing and safe environment that fosters the physical, emotional, and intellectual development of young children. The Head Teacher will also guide and mentor assistant teachers, communicate effectively with parents, and ensure compliance with all OCFS (Office of Children and Family Services) regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement a daily schedule of activities that promote child development in all areas (cognitive, social, emotional, and physical).
  • Develop and adapt age-appropriate curriculum that aligns with OCFS guidelines.
  • Ensure that activities are both engaging and educational, using materials and resources that support early learning.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Observe and document children's progress and developmental milestones.

Child Care and Supervision:

  • Provide direct care and supervision for children in the Infant/Toddler room.
  • Ensure a safe environment by following all safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Meet the individual needs of each child, including feeding, diapering, and emotional support.

Compliance with Regulations:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant OCFS regulations, including child-staff ratios, health and safety standards, and program requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of attendance, assessments, and incident reports as required by OCFS.

Parent Communication:

  • Develop positive, respectful relationships with parents and provide regular updates on children’s progress.
  • Conduct parent conferences to discuss development, concerns, and recommendations.
  • Promote family involvement in the daycare through activities and communication.

Staff Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor assistant teachers, providing guidance and support in their professional growth.
  • Assist with staff training and development to ensure high standards of care and teaching.
  • Foster teamwork and maintain a positive, supportive environment within the classroom.
  • Develop leadership skills and grow within the organization to take on more responsibilities, with the potential to transition into a Supervisor or Program Director role if desired.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain within the first 90 days of employment).
  • Experience:
  • At least 2 years of experience in an early childhood setting, preferably in an infant/toddler classroom.
  • Strong knowledge of child development theories and OCFS regulations.
  • OCFS Requirements:
  • Must meet the qualifications set by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) for an Infant/Toddler Head Teacher, including:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a licensed child care setting.
  • Completion of 12 credit hours in child development or early childhood education.
  • Criminal background check and child abuse/neglect clearance.
  • Must be able to provide evidence of physical and mental health to care for children, including a negative tuberculosis test.
  • Completion of any other OCFS-required training (e.g., health and safety, mandated reporter training, etc.).
  • Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to remain patient, calm, and positive in all situations.
  • Ability to create and maintain a positive learning environment for children and staff.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and provide leadership in a collaborative setting.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds (for lifting children, equipment, etc.).
  • Must be able to sit on the floor, kneel, bend, and engage physically with children.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, as needed.
