Hourly Position
Position: CNC Programmer Level 4
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develops Computer Numeric Control (CNC) programs for production machines, using Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software such as MasterCAM, Unigraphics NX or Catia.
- Specifies and procures cutting tools and fixtures to be used in the machining process
- Creates set up sheets, procedures and documentation for the manufacturing process
- Analyzes design data in the form of drawings and CAD files to determine manufacturing sequence on individual machine tools; selects cutting tools, machine feed and speed rates
- Reads and interprets blueprints and drawings using knowledge of GD&T
- Sets up and administers operation of a Direct Numeric Control (DNC) system for all production machines. Trains operators in the use of the system. Develops and maintains configuration control of programs. Reviews changes and approves updates to programs.
- Consults with operators, supervisors and manufacturing engineers to improve software, machining processes, tooling and set-up time, etc.
- Supports manufacturing and engineering projects as assigned, including but not limited to: process improvement, cycle time studies, tooling and fixture design, machine utilization/uptime, scrap/rework reduction, productivity improvement, reducing setup/changeover time
- Applies lean manufacturing principles to identify and eliminate waste and inefficiencies in the production process
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Internal applicants must be a current Level 4 Machinists based on the Observational Rater process or be currently in an engineering field.
- Analyze and implement read/write/troubleshoot machine part probing for process control through CNC programming
- Intermediate computer skills (MS Excel, MS Word, and ADP Applications).
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, stay organized, and easily adapt to changing situations and priorities.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Ability to professionally communicate and work cooperatively with others
- Attention to detail
- Basic English language skills and the ability to read, follow, and interpret planning and work order instructions
- Willingness to learn
- US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required due to government military contracts.
Experience & Education
- High school diploma or GED
- 3-5 years of CNC programming experience in a high volume, precision manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of applicable programming languages and CAD/CAM software
- Minimum high school diploma or GED; Associates degree or technical schooling preferred
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to indoor manufacturing environment
- Must be comfortable being in manufacturing environment, with exposure to moderate noise.
- Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes, odors, hot / cold temperatures, inside / outside noise vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
- Must be able to periodically support off shift for events as scheduled.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds on a repetitive basis.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis for up to twelve (12) hours.
- Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, pushing and pulling of materials.
- Must be able to safety operate an overhead crane.
- Must be able to reach and work above and below the shoulder level.
- Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.
- Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
- Visual acuity skill to detect any flaws in the parts being inspected.
