Located in Kent Washington, Protective Coatings Inc. is a leading provider of full service finishing for the aerospace, electronics and medical industries in both commercial and defense applications. Services include but are not limited to non-destructive testing such as fluorescent penetrant and magnetic particle inspection and a wide variety of surface enhancement processes such as shot peening and abrasive blasting, passivation, cadmium and nickel zinc plating, chromic, sulfuric and boric sulfuric acid anodizing and the application of chromate conversion coating on ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. Organic coating includes the application and testing of multiple resin systems such as epoxies, phenolics, polyurethanes, polyesters, elastomerics, intumescents, lacquers, alkyds, acrylics, dry-film lubricants, powder coatings and Teflon. Position Summary:
Estimates labor and material costs of manufacturing and engineering based on Request for Proposal or Quote (RFP/RFQ) data submitted by prospective customers. Analyzes specifications including sketches, blueprints, bills of material, or sample layouts, and calculates production costs using labor and material pricing schedules and historical data. Collects cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors. Computes cost estimates of raw materials or subcontracted work and labor. Prepares and maintains historical cost data. Creates cost models for cost estimating elements. Prepares cost reports and presents findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, customer representatives, price auditors, vendors, and subcontractors.
Reporting Relationships:
The Estimator will report to the Associate Program Manager.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintaining regular and punctual attendance according to shift-times or a pre-arranged
- Provide work instructions and guidance to team members
- Using drawing and specification information in customer Requests for Quotes (RFQ), determine labor, material, and process hour and cost estimates for detailed parts, assemblies, and tooling
- Review Estimator worksheets for accuracy and completeness
- Coordinate with Business Development, Program and Division Management, and other support functions as required to complete estimates using company approved Excel workbooks and data sheets
- Prepare and/or coordinate summary quote presentation documentation such as internal Proposal Review workbooks and PowerPoint presentations
- Coordinate, prepare, and submit Customer required proposal documentation
- Maintain historical databases for Division core competencies and typical products
- Prepare cost models and parametric studies using historical databases
- Instruct/guide team in the preparation of reports, presentations, status, and continuous improvement initiatives
- May occasionally perform special projects; Perform other duties as assigned
- Create customer specific priority (“HOT”) lists for production and individual department tracking.
- Acquire customer POC’s (purchase order changes) for due date changes and quantities.
- Adjusting (e-system) of revised customer due dates or quantities, as appropriate.
- Electronic scanning of company records (i.e. customer POC’s).
- Communicate expedite costs and provide lead times with customers.
- Provide assistance in Contact Review process of new orders to help determine lead times.
- Provide e-mail communications with planning, production and Management of necessary changes in process, material needs, and priority processing.
- Reviews lead times of incoming orders and makes adjustments to due dates as necessary.
- Arrange and consolidate completed or return orders for delivery/shipment.
- Provide customer service (by e-mail or phone) to assist and address customer needs.
- Request customer assistance for providing processing aides, shipping containment, or supplied paint.
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, P&L analysis, BQMS, and other methods used in product manufacturing
- Knowledge of customer RFQ document types and language; Ability to interpret RFQ request from customer drawings and specs
- Knowledge of cost estimating methods, from detailed part bids through parametric modeling used in large-scale quotations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; Able to instruct others in estimating methods, tools, and software
- Attention to detail, accurate, and organized
- Blueprint reading and interpretation skills
- Appropriate math skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CATIA or Enovia
- Able to establish, communicate and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
- Complete understanding of production flow of facility and familiarity of internal processes.
- Ability to work alone or as a member of a team, good cooperative skills.
