Located in Wilder, KY and founded in 1946, Andrews Laser Works specializes in the fabrication of complex assemblies from Inconel, steel, aluminum, and titanium sheet with a core competency in aero engine brackets and components. Utilizing laser cutting, machining, forming, stamping, welding, & assembly processes, the company transforms sheet metal into complex, tight-tolerance brackets for aircraft engines. Position Summary:
The Shop Floor Manager is ultimately responsible for shop floor performance to company directives, goals, and objectives. Directs all production activity across all shifts on the shop floor. Oversees all of the following functions:
Safety:
Works with the Safety Manager to review and improve safety on the shop floor on a constant basis. Manages shop floor actions to drive a safety culture above all other priorities. Holds area supervisors accountable to fully integrate the PCC cardinal rules of safety into their daily operations. Implements and manages any company or corporate directives at the shop floor level that support Safety initiatives.
Quality:
Works with the Quality manager to address any and all quality concerns. Drives continuous improvement through the Corrective Action process. Follows up with area managers to assure long term solutions are put into place and followed. Continuously drives early detection of issues and drives the quality culture across all shifts on the shop floor.
Throughput:
Works with the Operations Director/Manager to set department throughput goals on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis. Drives throughput by holding all department heads accountable to meet all production goals and objectives. Responsible for adequately manning each department across all shifts to maintain normal operations through management (area manager and 2nd in command), representation at the line walk, flexing, training / cross-training, and hiring.
Cost:
Works with the Operations Director/Manager to set company and corporate performance goals on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis. Manages department area supervisors to drive cost down through continuous improvement projects and productivity / efficiency improvements. Works with procurement to drive down supplies and tooling costs. Constantly checks to make sure headcount is set appropriately to meet demand without overspending.
Primary Responsibilities:

Develop area managers to:
- Drive a safety first culture in their departments. The only injury goal should be ZERO injuries.
- Drive a quality “zero escapes” culture in their deparments. All non-conformances should be caught and dealt with in the source department (the department that the non-conformance occurred). Also to drive a “zero repeats” culture that addresses non-conformances and prevents them from re-occuring.
- Develop a 2nd in command for their area. Aggressively pursue, train, and develop this person to manage and represent the department in their absence.
- Handle all HR opportunities including employee engagement, communication and disciplinary actions.
- Drive a “MAKE THE DAY” culture in their departments. Using data to identify root causes and drive solutions. Addressing problems immediately while they are still “small” problems.
- Communicate and execute quarterly production, sales, and inventory goals for the shop floor.
- Manage direct reports; Maintain company / corporate schedule, quality, and cost targets. Delegate to direct reports or teams with direct reports to accomplish goals
- Partner with HR and direct reports to resolve problems, complaints or grievances, and to plan and forecast staffing
- Champion Six Sigma and facilitate lean initiatives
- Uphold and drive area management metrics.
- May occasionally perform special projects; Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills:
- Familiar with MRP/ERP concepts and the manufacturing process.
- Knowledge of safety procedures, production processes, quality controls, and cost controls.
- Understand/use techniques for effective control of delivered quality, cost, and schedule in the manufacture of PCC Aerostructures, Andrews Laser Works products
- Knowledge of management principles involved in strategic planning and forecasting including people, material, and equipment resource allocation; corporate and human resource policies and benefits; leadership and teaming; and production methods.
- Familiar with lean manufacturing work area practices including 6S, Visual Controls, Standard Work, work center metrics, and continuous improvement processes and able to instruct others in these practices
- Motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job
- Consider costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one
- Proactive communicator who can clearly articulate results and needs across all levels
- Able to establish and communicate clear priorities and to influence others to support and act on those priorities
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
Education and Experience
- BS/BA or equivalent experience
- 7 years related experience and 2 years in a leadership role
