Job Description

Primary Function:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, responsible for managing, developing, and implementing the environmental, health, and safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Inspects, evaluates, and improves the facility’s environment, equipment, processes, and hazardous materials management. Provides leadership in protecting employees, customers, and the environment by investigating accidents, leading safety training programs, and promoting continuous safety improvement.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manages the development, implementation, and administration of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs. Leads and partners with other site leadership to improve and implement EHS and 6S programs.
  • Develops, coordinates, and delivers EHS training programs for both new hires and current employees to promote safe work behaviors and foster a lean safety culture.
  • Leads all environmental compliance and reporting including hazardous waste, air emissions, and water.
  • Serves as point of contact for officials and auditors from regulatory agencies, consultants, and other contractors. Manages multiple site activities with regulatory agencies to verify compliance, resolve situations, and maintain a cooperative working relationship.
  • Plans, prepares, and responds to hazmat emergencies and accidents. Investigates accidents and environmental incidents through root cause analysis and recommends policies, procedures, and/or other actions to correct problems or prevent future occurrences.
  • Investigates work related injuries and illnesses and manages the site's workers' compensation program.
  • Oversees and performs various site EHS inspections and audits and recommends proper corrective actions.
  • Performs research projects and analysis that require specialized knowledge in several EHS areas, develops reports and findings, and recommends operational changes.
  • Leads site safety committee to drive employee engagement in EHS. Contributes and supports regional, divisional, and corporate EHS activities.
  • Maintains safety metrics including OSHA 300 logs, leading/lagging indicators, energy usage, etc.
  • Monitors employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and compliance with safety policies and practices.
  • Supports plant and corporate engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards. May manage the execution of EHS related capital projects for the site.
  • Performs other EHS related and assigned duties as necessary.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years related experience leading EHS.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state (Utah) occupational safety, health, and environmental regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Strong knowledge of oil and chemical labeling and storage requirements with the ability to interpret and manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Knowledge of regulatory filing and reporting.
  • Ability to interpret and apply internal and external policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to deploy and/or implement effective training programs.
  • Ability to resolve sensitive health, safety, and environmental questions and concerns with discretion.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other applicable applications.
  • Ability to be a highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability and adaptability to perform job duties effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and hands-on leadership skills.
  • Attention to detail and strict compliance skills.
