Headquartered in the Cleveland, Ohio area, we are looking for a highly motivated Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist Bilingual(Spanish/English) to join our team. This role is crucial in ensuring safety compliance and promoting a strong safety culture across our projects.
Position Overview
The EHS Specialist will play a key role in implementing, managing, and enforcing safety programs across multiple job sites. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background in construction safety, experience conducting safety audits, and the ability to effectively communicate safety protocols—especially with Spanish-speaking employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicate with Spanish-speaking employees to ensure all certifications, licenses, and training requirements are met.
- Develop, implement, and manage environmental health and safety programs for large-scale construction projects.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Provide safety training and guidance to project managers, supervisors, and workers.
- Maintain and update safety documentation, including incident reports and compliance records.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, determine root causes, and implement preventative measures.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of safety equipment and personal protective gear.
- Collaborate with regulatory agencies and industry professionals to stay up to date on best practices.
- Prepare and deliver safety presentations and reports to stakeholders.
- Travel up to 70% of the time to job sites.
Required Qualifications:
General Requirements
- Willingness to travel up to 70%.
- Ability to work overtime when needed.
Language
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) – required for effective communication with Spanish-speaking employees.
Education & Experience
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Safety from an accredited institution in relevant fields such as Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Management, Safety & Health Studies, Environmental Science, etc.
Licensing & Certifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Company vehicles provided for work-related travel.
- Per diem allowance for out-of-town travel.
- Ability to pass criminal and motor vehicle background checks.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and be able to wear respiratory protection if required.
Skills & Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Strong self-motivation and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education & Certifications
- 5 years of experience on large construction projects.
- Completion of the OSHA 500 training course.
- CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) certification with a minimum of 4 years in a construction safety role.
Experience & Professional Development
- Experience with industrial hygiene (IH) monitoring and sampling equipment.
- Willingness to learn about environmental and demolition safety, including asbestos, lead, mold, silica, and nuisance dust assessments.
- Interest in continuing education and professional certifications.
