As an apprentice, you will work under the guidance of experienced glaziers to install, repair, and maintain glass systems in commercial buildings such as office buildings, storefronts, high-rises, and curtain wall systems.
Daily Responsibilities
Installation & Fabrication:
- Assist in measuring, cutting, and preparing glass, aluminum framing, and related materials for installation.
- Help install glass panels, storefront systems, curtain walls, and other architectural glazing components.
- Work with various materials, including tempered, laminated, and insulated glass, as well as aluminum framing.
- Load, unload, and transport glass, tools, and equipment to and from job sites.
- Set up work areas, including scaffolding, lifts, and safety barriers, ensuring a safe and efficient workspace.
- Help in applying sealants, gaskets, and caulking to secure and weatherproof glass installations.
- Learn to operate hand tools, glass cutters, drills, suction cups, and power tools safely and effectively.
- Assist in assembling and installing framing, fasteners, and other structural components.
- Maintain and clean tools, ensuring they are in good working condition.
- Follow all OSHA and company safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist in inspecting glass for defects and ensuring installations meet industry standards and project specifications.
- Adhere to blueprint readings and job site drawings to execute proper installations.
- Shadow experienced glaziers to gain hands-on experience in commercial glazing techniques.
- Participate in training sessions on industry standards, installation methods, and safety procedures.
- Develop problem-solving skills to troubleshoot installation challenges and site-specific conditions.
- No prior experience required; willingness to learn the trade.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (50 lbs).
- Comfortable working at heights using ladders, lifts, and scaffolding.
- Basic understanding of construction tools and measurements is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Reliable transportation to job sites.
