Job description
Skills and Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED required
· Good communication and organization skills
· Experience in the steel fabrication and construction industry
· Knowledge of GMAW & FCAW welding processes
· Strong leadership and communication skills
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
· Deep understanding of construction processes, cost estimation, and budget management
· Ability to work as part of a goal-oriented team
· Must be a self-starter, self-motivated, and customer-focused
Key Responsibilities:
- Shop Management: Oversee the organization, maintenance, and operation of the shop facility, including equipment, tools, and materials.
- Material Handling: Coordinate the receipt, storage, and distribution of construction materials and equipment.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper maintenance and repair of shop equipment and tools.
- Safety: Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures within the shop.
- Coordination: Work with field superintendents, project managers, and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials and support for construction projects.
- Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of materials and equipment inventory.
- Staff Supervision: Supervise shop personnel, including mechanics, laborers, and other shop staff.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of shop activities, including inventory, maintenance, and safety inspections.
- Problem Solving: Identify and resolve issues that arise in the shop to ensure smooth operations.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including field personnel, vendors, and subcontractors.
Relationship with Project Manager:
While a superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day operations in the shop, the project manager often oversees the overall projects. The relationship between the project manager and superintendent is typically a collaborative one, with respect for each other's expertise and distinct roles.
