Description

Precision Neuroscience is pioneering a brain implant, known as a brain-computer interface (BCI), to restore communication and independence for people with neurological conditions. Our cutting-edge technology is designed to empower people with paralysis to control digital devices-such as computers and smartphones-with their thoughts alone, opening new possibilities for daily life.

Precision's multidisciplinary team brings together leading experts in diverse fields such as neurosurgery, artificial intelligence, machine learning, microfabrication, electrical engineering, and more. We are committed to turning breakthrough scientific advancements into real-world solutions for people affected by conditions such as spinal cord injury, stroke, and ALS.

As a Precision employee, you will be joining one of the fastest moving and best-capitalized companies in the emerging field of BCI. Since our founding in 2021, Precision has secured over $155 million in funding, developed and validated our technology, and initiated human trials in collaboration with some of the nation's top hospitals.

We are seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our Surgery Hardware Team to lead essential design projects for maximizing the reliability and safety of our BCI hardware as well as our novel minimally invasive delivery method.

This position will be on-site in Manhattan, New York. We are unable to consider remote workers. You must be currently in the United States with working rights to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of trajectory planning instruments and high precision motion systems for surgical deployment of our micro electrode array onto the cortical surface.
  • Integrate our surgical hardware with existing commercial navigation systems and patient planning interfaces (eg ROSA, StealthStation) such that it maximizes endpoint accuracy, reliability, and safety.
  • Help to refine our existing surgical fixtures and tools to ensure they are commercially manufacturable.
  • Complete risk assessments and mitigation plans to maximize the safety and reliability of surgical tooling.
  • Complete hands-on assembly, integration and testing tasks while ensuring rigorous quality control is being enforced.
  • Collaborate with the rest of our team to publish and present our work.
  • Create and update end-user technical documentation, product specifications and vendor procedures to ensure we are compliant with relevant regulations.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • BS / MS in Mechanical Engineering (ME), Biomedical Engineering (BME) or similar.
  • 7 years of industry experience in mechanical engineering roles, preferably in the medical device industry.
  • Experience designing and completing hands-on engineering of commercial precision instruments, motion systems and actuators, electromechanical systems, or automation systems.
  • Hands-on experience with robotics systems involving sensors, imaging systems and communications.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; able to collaborate with neuroscientists, neurosurgeons, and electrical, software, materials, and bio engineers.
  • Expert in CAD (we use SolidWorks) and finite element analysis FEA
  • Track record of working towards accelerated timelines.
  • You should be comfortable with creative problem solving, collaborating, and taking charge of projects from concept to production.
  • Diverse workforces create the best culture, company, and products. We at Precision are committed to an inclusive culture that celebrates the uniqueness and contributions of everyone.
