About the Role:
The Utility Locator will be responsible for identifying, marking, and documenting the location of underground utilities, including gas, water, electric, and telecommunications lines, to ensure the safe excavation and construction of pipeline infrastructure. This role requires keen attention to detail, field experience, and the ability to work independently in various weather conditions.
Primary Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
- Accurately locate and mark underground utilities using electromagnetic and GPS-based locating equipment.
- Read and interpret utility maps, blueprints, and as-built drawings to determine utility locations.
- Communicate with construction teams, contractors, and utility companies to ensure safe excavation practices.
- Follow safety procedures and industry regulations to prevent utility damage and service disruptions.
- Maintain and calibrate utility locating equipment as needed.
- Travel to different job sites within the assigned region.
- Self-motivated and work independently
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience with PC Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience with subsite and RD locating equipment with ability to locate with direct hook and induce signal
- Familiar with 811 laws and color format of utilities
- Ability to trouble shoot issues and communicate
- Valid Driver’s License and Ability to Pass Motor Vehicle Record
- Ability to read and understand utility maps, construction plans, and engineering drawings
- Strong written, oral, and analytical skills
- Ability to function in a team environment and collaborate within and across organizational lines
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated success in providing extraordinary customer service with internal and external customers
- Results oriented and possess effective problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage and execute tasks with multiple conflicting priorities
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position:
- Experience working with field operations
- Basic understanding of the utility industry
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret technical data.
