Position: Field Service Technician Reports to: Director of Engineering
The Field Service Technician position will perform electro-mechanical work, assist and troubleshoot with engineers, while working as a team, to test, install, start-up and demonstrate customer converting equipment, along with training customers on the operation and maintenance of this equipment. Field service technicians plan and perform a wide range of duties to install, demonstrate and instruct customer’s employees in the operation of company produced machinery at the customer’s plant. When not traveling, this role will work with our assembly team in our shop in Green Bay building custom converting equipment.
· A working knowledge of web handling equipment and tension control, including the ability to calibrate load cells and tune drives.
· Work from assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, machine manuals, technical procedures and specifications to assist with or install new machines and upgrades as required, as well as to service legacy equipment already in the field; responsible for installations of various sections and complete machines and adjustments as necessary to ensure proper operation.
· Set up and operate machinery to produce customer’s product; instruct operators in set-up and operating procedures; provide technical and practical answers to customer’s questions or problems.
- Perform routine and/or emergency breakdown mechanical/electrical service on customer equipment; determine root cause of trouble; prepare report of findings and solutions to problem.
- Report quality issues and take corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
- Act as liaison between customer and company; maintain positive relationships with customers.
- Prepare and submit reports as required.
- Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to less experienced personnel.
· Promote a safe working environment. Identify and demonstrate use of machine safety and personal protection equipment. Demonstrate compliance with safety procedures, OSHA requirements and guidelines.
· Ensure that work areas and equipment are maintained in clean and orderly condition and all safety regulations are observed; report and correct any unsafe work practices or conditions immediately.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills/Experience
· Ability to travel at least 50% of the time – by air or car.
- Ability to follow written and oral instruction.
· Ability to read drawings and technical specifications with knowledge of geometric tolerances.
· Ability to read electrical and pneumatics schematics; procedures and other job instructions.
· Ability to set-up and assemble machine modules using hand tools or material handling devices (e.g. cranes, forklifts).
· Knowledge in use of measuring instruments and their application.
· Basic math skills to include but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and geometry.
· Technical knowledge of or ability to learn machining and manufacturing procedures and practices.
· Ability to work in a team environment.
· Adaptable to changing work environment with competing demands and frequent changes.
· Ability to stand or walk for an 8-10 hour shift.
· Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Bend, squat, climb, grasp, reach, lift or otherwise move about frequently and for extended periods of time.
