Job Description
Job Title: Psychiatric Nurse - Registered Nurse
Department: Nursing
Reports To: Director of Nursing
FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary:
- Play an integral role in our multidisciplinary team to help optimize the health and improve the quality of lives of our patients.
- Provide nursing care assigned by and under the direction of the certifying physician and Preferred Care’s Director of Nursing
- Play an integral role in the care continuum of patients
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Note: Other Duties May Be Assigned)
- Shall be the case manager in all cases involving patients who were diagnosed with a psychiatric related diagnosis.
- Ensure interdisciplinary care coordination and appropriate POC development for patients caseload
- Be responsible for the clinical record of each patient receiving care under his/her responsibility.
- Responsible for appropriate communication, reporting, and documentation for patient caseload.
- May assign selected portions of patient care to licensed practical nurses and home health aides but always retains full responsibility for the care given and for making supervisory visits as required by regulations.
- Responsible for following physician’s orders and reporting changes in patient’s condition to the physician.
- Makes scheduled visits and regularly re-evaluates the patient’s nursing needs, following the plan of treatment and revision when necessary.
- Teaches, supervises, and consults with the patient and family members in methods of meeting the nursing care needs and other related problems.
- Initiates emergency measures in life-threatening or unsafe conditions.
- Participates in all required case conferences, utilization reviews, orientations, in-services, and continuing education meetings.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
Education and/or Experience:
- One year of medical/surgical nursing care experience is required. Experience as a public health nurse or home health care experience is desirable.
- Five years of psychiatric nursing care experience is preferred.
Language Skills:
- Must possess good communication skills, both written and verbal in English. Ability to communicate in other foreign languages is desirable.
Reasoning Ability:
- Able to work under pressure and handle multi-task functions. Must be able to deal effectively with people. Must be self-motivated and resourceful.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.
