Job Description
The Employment and Training Specialist will function as part of a multi-disciplinary team to carry out the services of the supported employment program by assisting clients to obtain and maintain employment that is consistent with their vocational goals. The Employment and Training Specialist is responsible for matching job applicants to a specific job that suits their talents. The Employment and Training Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the candidate has the right skills for the job. A few of the main duties of an employment specialist are testing the skills of the job candidates, conducting mock interviews, helping candidates with their resume, and monitor job retention. He/she will also have to work with employers to match their job openings to current caseload.
Job Duties/Knowledge:
- Conducts job development and job search activities directed toward positions that are individualized to the interests and uniqueness of the people on his/her caseload, following the principles and procedures of supported employment.
- Provides individualized follow-along supports to assist clients in maintaining employment.
- Provides education and support to employers as agreed upon by clients, which may include negotiating job accommodations and follow-along contact by the employment specialist with the employer.
- Develop and complete task analysis, training plans, placement and job coaching reports accurately and timely.
- Provides timely interventions. Returns phone calls and reacts to situations in a timely manner. For example, returns client phone calls within 24 hours. Goes to see employers about job loss or job problems within 24 hours. Follows up on job leads within 48 hours.
- Documenting and reporting client progress and updates.
- All duties must be performed with the highest level of integrity, adhere to Preferred's code of ethics and support principles of person centeredness. All duties will be executed in accordance with Preferred's policies and procedures and adhere to all requirements.
- Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Education and experience equivalent to undergraduate degree in mental health, social services, business, or sales and marketing.
- Experience working with people with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities
- Experience providing employment services, and knowledge of the work world are preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to communicate clearly is continuously required when interacting with clients, employers, counselors, and reporting to supervisor the treatment results, observations, client complaints, and other pertinent information regarding the condition of the client.
- A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and a driving record meeting Preferred's driving policy also required.
Compensation based on education and experience.
