The Peer Specialist will work directly with individuals, assisting them in creating personalized treatment plans and connecting them with necessary community resources. By establishing strong therapeutic relationships, this role facilitates the development of essential skills leading to recovery and enhanced life quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with individuals to develop personalized treatment plans addressing their specific needs.
  • Maintain communication with referral sources and guardians to discuss individual progress and relevant clinical matters.
  • Participate in team meetings to ensure continuity of care for individuals.
  • Assist individuals in accessing medical services and document all services in accordance with state and CARF standards.
  • Support clients in accessing recovery tools and community support services.
  • Facilitate group education sessions and provide crisis intervention as scheduled.
  • Mentor individuals in identifying their strengths and accomplishing recovery goals.
  • Offer emotional and informational support, helping clients connect with recovery resources.
  • Advocate for clients to help them make independent choices in their treatment.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:


Must be willing to self-identify as a present or former client of mental health and/or substance use services OR self-identifies as a person in recovery from mental health and/or substance use disorder. Requires one year of direct and personal experience with the mental health system as a primary consumer of services. Able to complete a state-approved Certified Peer Support training program and other required trainings within six months of employment. Exceptions to the qualifications listed may be made by the appropriate Leadership.

Required License/Certification (one of the following):

  • Must meet the standards of CPRS (Certified Peer Recovery Specialist) or CRSS (Certified Recovery Support Specialist).

Additional Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of recovery experience.
  • Knowledge of community resources related to mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas verbally and in writing.
