Job Title: Prevention Specialist (ARTC Focus)

Job Summary:
As the Prevention Specialist with a focus on ARTC (Achieving Resiliency, Recovery, Responsibility in Creativity), you will be responsible for providing prevention and early intervention services to local school districts. Your role includes training, curriculum development (groups and presentations), assessments, referral facilitation, consultation, and documenting/reporting outcomes as required by funders.
The ARTC program integrates art, music, and other creative, activity-based mediums, allowing students to engage in learning in a way that reduces resistance and builds essential skills. This approach is particularly effective for youth who may not respond well to traditional prevention strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Delivery: Use a creative, strengths-based approach with experiential or activity-based prevention strategies grounded in the ARTC program.
Community Coalition Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact for members of community-based coalitions, teams, and task forces in the assigned geographic area.
Technical Assistance & Training: Offer technical assistance and provide training resources to coalitions to enhance their ability to prevent substance use.
Professional Development: Attend and participate in conferences and internal in-services as required by contract, Project Coordinator, Program Director, and/or Executive team members.
Needs Assessment: Assist in the creation of a yearly community needs assessment for the contract award area and coalition needs assessments for the designated geographic area.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Prevention Strategies: Ability to design and implement prevention programs, particularly those using creative, non-traditional methods.
Community Resources: Knowledge of local resources and programs that can assist in substance use prevention efforts.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to engage with students, school personnel, and community coalitions effectively.
Facilitation & Training: Ability to conduct training sessions and facilitate group discussions on prevention topics.
Problem-Solving: Strong ability to assess challenges and develop solutions that meet the needs of diverse youth populations.
Collaboration: Ability to collaborate effectively with community partners, school staff, and families.
Experience and Education Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in social work, counseling, criminal justice, psychology, or a related human services field; OR
High School Diploma or GED with at least two (2) years of experience in the human services field.
Employment Requirements:
Background Check: Successful completion of background checks, including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect, and fingerprint checks.
Orientation & Training: Completion of New Hire Orientation and all required training, including Relias courses, at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.
Driver’s License: Current valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance.
Physical Requirements:
ADA Consideration - Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (up to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull objects, including the human body.
Repetitive Movements: Requires repetitive hand, finger, and arm movements for tasks such as typing and writing during work shifts.
Physical Activity: Primarily sedentary work, with occasional walking or standing. Jobs are considered sedentary if walking or standing is required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
