What are the responsibilities and job description for the Metal Fabricator position at Prefix Corporation?
SUMMARY:
This position sets up, adjusts, and operates a variety of fabrication tools. Plans, lays out and performs all operations required to fabricate and construct a variety of different materials. Performs set up for welding of standard weldments and structures in accordance with code certifications, alignment, dimensional and general inspection requirements. Fits and positions weldments having a number of parts and uses welding fixtures where applicable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing structural or sheet metal products
- Proficient with interpreting dimensional information from 3D CAD models
- Select gauge and type of structural or sheet metal according to product specifications
- Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on material applying knowledge of shop mathematics and lay out techniques.
- Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as Shear, Press Brake, Bridgeport, Lathe, Tube Bender.
- Fabricate parts using fabricating machines, such as drill press, lathe, mill and power hand tools
- Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding
- MIG & TIG welding of various materials
- Weld, bolt, rivet, screw or bond component parts to assemble products
- Install and fit assemblies in supportive framework according to engineering drawings
- Inspect assemblies and installation for conformance to specifications
- Design and construct templates and fixtures
- Perform other tasks as assigned or approved by the Metal Fab Leader
Successful, background & experience in operation of fabrication tools. Basic welding skills. Basic computer skills. Basic CAD experience is a plus.
Experience or desire to learn more advanced fabrication tools such as waterjet & laser programming & operation.
Incumbent must possess basic hand tools for the position and upgrade such tools as required to complete the tasks assigned.
