What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Supervisor position at Preformed Line Products?
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Direct the work, people, and results within the maintenance department. Maintain a productive and motivational climate.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Supervise operations involved to maintain, overhaul, modify, install, and fabricate manufacturing parts, equipment, and machines.
- Plan, organize, prioritize, and assign work to utilize skills, ability and experience of available work force to obtain most favorable cost, workmanship, and quality.
- Work closely with manufacturing to schedule opportune time to make temporary or permanent repairs. Direct and expedite repairs to keep downtime to a minimum; diagnose malfunctions and determine nature and extent of repairs, check stock repair parts, requisitions needed parts through purchase or work order and plan for and schedule repairs, including associated equipment repair, machining, and/or fabrication.
- Supervise and coordinate the preventive maintenance program. Plant PM system is important to the success of machine uptime and will need metrics established and reported on daily. Metrics will be determined from input of affected parties and plant management.
- Monitor breakdowns daily and look for root cause on repeating issues to correct and eliminate them.
- Appraise employee performance by conducting reviews and recommend promotions and wage adjustments. Assess developmental/training needs and provide guidance to team as needed.
- Maintain conformance with company work rules and regulations, issue warnings for violations and administer approved disciplinary measures when necessary.
- Maintain an adequately skilled work force consistent with planning requirements and work levels.
- Anticipate problems such as unavoidable delays, material shortages, equipment malfunctions, etc., and where feasible, devise and implement procedures to offset loss of man-hours and schedule interruptions.
- Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
- Participate in and coordinate company programs such as ISO9000, department training, safety, vacation schedules, etc.
- Ensure use of safety devices and equipment, supervise departmental housekeeping and maintain constant alert for hazardous conditions and practices.
- Attend company sponsored training classes, special technical and administrative courses, seminars, exhibits and trade shows to keep abreast of and well informed on new developments applicable to the supervisory function.
- Submit requests for needed equipment/tools for the maintenance team annually for consideration for the budget.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
AAS Degree in related Technical/Engineering field or vocational school graduate plus formal apprenticeship or equivalent trades training required. Specialized courses or seminars in supervisory and administrative subjects preferred as well. Post-secondary degree in Engineering (mechanical/electrical) is preferred. Mechanical/Electrical background required.
EXPERIENCE:
Seven to ten years’ experience required, to include time in related preparatory classifications to become familiar with maintenance and machining techniques employed in the manufacturing process.
