What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer -Advocate (Spanish) position at Pregnancy Resource Center?
Objectives of the position: As an ambassador of Christ, a volunteer Advocate or Mentor will reach out to patients in an unplanned pregnancy with the mercy and compassion of Jesus Christ by offering practical assistance in both word and action.
Reports to: Education Manager
Qualifications:
- Be a committed Christian who demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
- Exhibit strong commitment and dedication to the pro-life position and sexual purity.
- Agree with and be willing to uphold the Statement of Faith, Statement of Principle, and the policies of the clinic.
- Be able to respect and keep confidential information.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal and administration skills.
- Be dependable, stable, and capable of following through on a commitment of at least eight (8) months per year.
- Exhibit a sincere desire to reach out with the love of Jesus to people in distress.
- Understand basic interpersonal dynamics.
- Be able to identify and adjust to a patient’s pace of progress and growth.
- Be familiar scripture pertaining to the sanctity of life, forgiveness and salvation.
- Complete the pregnancy clinic Advocate training, on-site training and background screening.
- Language: Spanish
Essential Functions:
General
- Follow all policies and procedures regarding intake and in-office duties.
- Keep current on information in the pregnancy clinic referral system.
- Maintain all patient records as indicated in clinic policies and guidelines.
- Prior to training, shadow an advocate at clinic for two, 4-hour shifts.
- Commitment to mentor and disciple patient through crisis intervention, education and integration programs of PRC.
- Attend required volunteer staff meetings and trainings to include:
- 2-day advocate training from 9:30-3:30
- Continued education for 2 hours per quarter
- Other required training
Education Center
- Commit to keep weekly scheduled appointments with 2-3 patients.
- Develop initial customized care-plan for patients that focuses on immediate crisis management.
- Adjust and add to care-plan as needs arise and pregnancy progresses.
- Be flexible to respond to patient’s concerns and needs. No need to stay with a schedule that does not impact the patient.
- Offer support, material resources, and referral appropriate to a patient’s situation.
- Look for teachable moments with patient in order to share the love of Jesus and His plan of salvation.
- Introduce patient to a local church through events that may benefit or interest them.
At the Education Center, relationships are formed in order to provide continuity, stability and a safe place to talk and learn. An Advocate or Mentor should desire for the patient to be reconciled to God and be introduced to a life-affirming community. Every effort should be made to introduce and integrate patients to life affirming communities where faith and family can continue to grow long after they leave PRC.
Time Commitment
- Commit to spending one hour per week per patient with 2-3 education patient.
