What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer - Translator (Creole) position at Pregnancy Resource Center?
Objectives of the position: As an ambassador of Christ, we are seeking a compassionate and skilled Creole Translator to assist in providing translating services for our Creole-speaking clients. This individual will help facilitate clear and accurate communication between clients and staff, ensuring that clients fully understand educational resources and available services. This is a volunteer role that works with clients that are facing an unplanned pregnancies. The volunteer will work with the mercy and compassion of Jesus Christ by offering practical assistance in both word and action.
Reports to: Education Manager
Qualifications:
- Be a committed Christian who demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
- Exhibit strong commitment and dedication to the pro-life position and sexual purity.
- Agree with and be willing to uphold the Statement of Faith, Statement of Principle, and the policies of the clinic.
- Be able to respect and keep confidential information.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal and administration skills.
- Be dependable, stable, and capable of following through on a commitment of at least eight (8) months per year.
- Exhibit a sincere desire to reach out with the love of Jesus to people in distress.
- Understand basic interpersonal dynamics.
- Be able to identify and adjust to a client's pace of progress and growth.
- Be familiar scripture pertaining to the sanctity of life, forgiveness and salvation.
- Complete the background screening.
- Language: Creole
Essential Functions:
- Provide accurate and culturally sensitive translation between Creole and English for patients and staff.
- Assist with in-person, over-the-phone, and written translations as needed.
- Translate medical, educational, and informational materials into Creole.
- Ensure client confidentiality and sensitivity in all communications.
- Work alongside nurses, counselors, and educators to support patients' understanding of their options and available resources.
- Help clients complete forms and paperwork by providing clarification and guidance.
- Maintain professionalism and adhere to ethical standards in translation and interpretation.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Fluent in Haitian Creole and English (spoken and written).
- Prior experience as a medical or community translator/interpreter preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, compassionate environment.
- Understanding of cultural nuances and sensitivity to the needs of our patients.
