LTS Moderate Special Education Teacher (11/12/24-02/12/25)

Minimum Qualifications: I.Massachusetts Licensure as a Special Education Teacher for grades 5-12 II.Successful teaching experience as a special education teacher for grades 5-12 III.Successful experience in involving parents in the educational process IV.Evidence of organizational skills V.Evidence of the ability to work successfully with a broad variety of professionals VI.Evidence of the knowledge of the guiding principles and learning standards of the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework Reports to:Building Principal Job Goal: To help classroom teachers modify curriculum and materials to accommodate the learning styles of students and aid in planning, developing, and executing individual learning programs and experiences within the regular education classroom. Performance Responsibilities: 1. Design, develop, and maintain an effective classroom learning environment. 2. Set and maintains standards of behavior appropriate to class. 3. Reading background or reading specialist preferred. 4. Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to special education. 5. Participate as a member of the weekly guidance meeting to discuss student’s concerns when appropriate. 6. Collaborate with the regular education teacher, create diagnostic/prescriptive and instructional objectives and corresponding activities to meet with each child’s unique educational needs. 7. In collaboration with the regular education teacher, formulate and write behavioral objectives based on evaluation findings. Write student’s I.E.P. e.g., student profile, performance level, methodology, evaluation techniques, and projected timelines for goal achievement. 8. In collaboration with the regular education teacher, design and implement educational lessons in accordance with the students’ I.E.P. objectives, using a diagnostic/prescriptive approach to progress monitoring and precise, data-based pupil progress records. 9. Consistently prepare for class and demonstrate written evidence of preparation including lesson plans coordinated with the students’ I.E.P. objectives. 10. Instruct assigned class in the location and at the times designated. 11. In collaboration with the regular education teacher, select and order appropriate instructional materials and employ materials and techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individual students. 12. Take suitable precautions to protect and maintain equipment, materials, and facilities. 13. Develop and submit quarterly progress reports on each student’s I.E.P. as required. 14. Be responsible for monitoring and initiating revisions of I.E.P.’s to ensure the relevance of activities to each child’s current needs, and to ensure his/her full educational benefit. 15. Meet with parents regularly outside the instructional day to discuss education-related issues. 16. Supervise and train paraprofessionals to provide the maximum utilization of their time and skill. Provide clear and concise direction and instruction. 17. Observe the Holbrook Public Schools standards of professional conduct in all instructional goals and activities, including the protection of the students and exact observation of emergency procedures. 18. Attend and participate in school meetings. 19. Provide additional assistance to the Principal, Director of Pupil Personnel Services, and their designees as directed. 20 Implement the educational plans of students with moderate special needs on an individual or small group basis in a regular education classroom setting. 21. Develop strategies to help remediate particular disabilities of students within the regular education classroom. 22. Develop Individualized Educational Plans on all students based on eligibility guidelines. 23. Schedule and participate in team meetings for students in the program. 24. Assist classroom teachers in the development of modifications of the regular education program in order to accommodate special needs students in the classroom. 25. In collaboration with the regular education teacher, design, develop, and maintain an effective classroom learning environment.
