Lime is looking for a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to help develop the next generation of lightweight electric vehicles and micromobility infrastructure. We design safe and compelling hardware to provide affordable and reliable transportation for cities around the world. By designing and operating our own hardware, we have a strategic advantage to provide a superior user experience. Lime is expanding our engineering team to execute on a multi-year product roadmap vision. This role is based in the SF Bay Area where Lime has its San Francisco Hardware Development Lab. It is a hybrid role, but it will require you to be in the office as needed for prototyping and testing, which are a regular part of our work. What You'll Do : Define, design, and deliver breakthrough lightweight electric vehicles and / or shared micromobility infrastructure (e.g. battery packs or docking hardware)Own the development of complex subsystems with high part count and stringent reliability requirementsCreate detailed and elegant mechanical designs in CADBuild prototypes in our metalworking and 3D print shopCollaborate with our Operations team and strive for simplicity and robustness in our designsDevise tests and proof of concepts to demonstrate and validate new ideas and drive data-based decision makingConduct root-cause investigations and utilize data to facilitate design improvementsDefine, create and release technical documentation using GD&T best practices and our product lifecycle management systemBrainstorm creative solutions to mechanical, manufacturing, and reliability problemsWork cross-functionally with internal teams and external suppliers around the worldSupport vehicle builds at Asian CMs (likely 2-3 trips / year)About You : BSc / MSc in Mechanical Engineering (or similar), or equivalent experience6 years of mechanical design work experience with at least one product you have taken from concept to mass productionAbility to work independently on novel designs and get team feedback at key stagesProficiency in CAD software and best practices (SolidWorks preferred)Familiarity designing plastic and metal parts for a range of manufacturing processesExperience conducting tolerance analyses and creating engineering drawings using GD&TComfortable in a fast-paced environment and adapting quickly to new requirementsDesire to work hands-on to prototype and validate new designsCurious, collaborative, and hardworkingExcited about the future of MicromobilityPreferred Qualifications : Bike or other vehicle industry experienceSkilled at FEA simulationTalented at CAD surface modelingExperience working with overseas suppliersProficiency in MandarinWelding experienceDemonstrated expertise in designing robust and durable products capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions and intensive useIf selected to move forward in the interview process, please have a portfolio of products / projects you have worked on available to discuss. The anticipated salary range for this position is $144,000 - $220,000. Annual performance bonus, equity and benefits may be provided as part of the compensation package, depending on the position offered. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the candidate’s location of residence, the successful candidate's skills, experience and other qualifications.
