Premier Athletics for Youth Development is currently seeking to fill an Assistant Cheer Coach position within Kalamazoo Premier Athletics.
Kalamazoo Premier Athletics offers training and cheerleading opportunities for beginners, intermediate, and advanced youth within the Kalamazoo area. Our program is open to both boys and girls (Grades K-6).
Responsibilities:
- Planning and Execution:
- Supervising age-appropriate practices plans to include chant and tumbling instructions along with stunt safety and progressions under the supervision of community partner Xplosion Elite Cheer.
- Organizing and leading practices (including warm-ups drills) and scrimmages according to agenda provided by head coaches.
- Coaching/supervising cheerleaders at games and community events.
- Working directly with cheer directors to outline the season schedule. (i.e. practice, gymnastics, games, etc.)
- Must be able to physically demonstrate MHSAA cheer skills to program participants (i.e correct motion placement, jumps, stunt positions, spotting and performing basic tumbling, etc)
- Participant Development:
- Teaching the fundamentals of the sport of cheering according to MHSAA standards.
- Providing feedback and guidance to athletes on their performance.
- Encouraging teamwork and skill progression.
- Promoting sportsmanship, fair play, and respect for rules, opponents, and officials.
- Communication and Organization:
- Ensuring proper sideline behavior from cheerleaders.
- Parent communication regarding scheduling changes and practice expectations.
- Safety and Well-being:
- Ensuring the safety and well-being of all athletes during practices, games and community events.
- Following league rules, policies, and procedures.
- Providing a safe and fun environment for the children.
- Other:
- Attending required meetings and training.
- Serving as a positive role model for young athletes.
- Encouraging the involvement of parents in the sport.
Requirements:
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of MHSAA cheer.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Patience and understanding with different abilities and exposure to cheer.
- Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes as they learn.
- Experience:
- Prior cheer experience at the middle and/or high school level.
- Previous coaching experience in youth sports is preferred.
- Experience working with children is beneficial.
- Certifications:
- CPR and first aid certification preferred – certification offered if needed.
- Must be able to pass a multi-point background check, in addition to completing any league required training. (i.e. Concussion Awareness, Sexual Abuse Awareness, etc.)
- Personal Qualities:
- Enthusiastic and dependable.
- Organized and detail oriented.
- Passionate about cheerleading in the youth arena.
- Cheerleader development and enjoyment as they learn to love the sport of cheerleading.
Coaches Stipend/Pay: Negotiable/TBD
Job Type: Seasonal
Expected hours: 6 – 10 per week
Schedule:
- 2 – 3 hour practices and/or games
- After school, evenings
- Weekends as needed
