Medical Office Specialist

DEPARTMENT : Front Office

REPORT TO : Front Office Manager

Job Summary

Responsible for patient check-in & check-out, while reviewing patient chart to verify necessary information. Will be responsible for greeting patients, scheduling appointments, making phone calls, collecting co-pays and balances due. To be successful in this position, associates must always be cheerful, friendly, polite, and professional in appearance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service experience

  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES :

    Patient Check-In / Check-Out

  • Responsible for patient check-in and check-out, greeting each patient in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Tracks patients in the reception area and communicates with them as needed.
  • Evaluates chart data to verify all information has been received and completed, and signatures obtained.
  • Photocopies patient insurance cards and photo ID.
  • Enter all new patient demographic information into the computer.
  • Schedules appointments to optimize patient satisfaction.
  • Collects co-pays and balances due.
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits when needed.
  • Assists patients with insurance and billing questions.
  • Administrative

  • Place telephone calls to confirm upcoming appointments and verify information required of the patient at the time of appointment.
  • Place telephone calls to no-show appointments; reschedules as needed.
  • Provides back-up support on telephones and Klara
  • Inspects reception room for neatness.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Assists other front office personnel as needed.
  • Cross train to telephone scheduling position.
