Description :
The Floater / Substitute provides coverage in the classroom when the Lead Teacher Associate Teacher or Aide is absent, on breaks, or in meetings. The Floater / Substitute is responsible for the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team. The teacher plans and implements the curriculum and, with the active participation of other teaching team members, works with parents and assesses the needs of individual children. A floater will support various capacities as needed within the school.

Requirements :
Minimum Qualifications :
Must have a minimum of at least 12 units in ECE / Child Development, including core courses, and at least (1) year of documented experience in an early childhood setting; must have physical, current CPR Certificate, current First Aid certificate, fingerprints, and TB skin test.
Must have a thorough knowledge of and be able to implement a developmental constructivist approach. Be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children. Must have a warm, nurturing, and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, and relate well with children. In addition, he / she must be willing to fulfill his / her responsibilities in accordance with the center’s educational philosophy.
Responsibilities :
To establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment.
- Provide coverage in the classroom when the Lead Teacher, Associate Teacher, or Aides are on breaks, in meetings, or absent.
- Ability to manage the classroom through positive redirection, problem-solving, setting appropriate limits, and active learning.
- Direct children in educational activities occurring in the classroom and during snacks and meals, naptime, outdoor play, and transition between activities.
- Maintain an environment for children that is clean, safe, stimulating, and appropriate for each child’s developmental level.
- Assume an equal share of the housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
- Promote healthy eating practices through participating in family-style meals and planning and implementing nutritional activities.
- May answer the phone and assist in the office as needed.
- Provide kitchen coverage as needed. Assists in serving and cleaning up snacks and meals. May prepare food for children, clean food preparation area, and wash dishes.
- Launder linens and clothes, as well as disinfect classroom toys.
- Meet and maintain licensing requirements for ratio.
