PELC is a learning center located in SE San Antonio. Presently, we are seeking to HIRE a Preschool and Twos teacher.
Description:
As an early childhood professional, each teacher is expected to contribute to a working environment that is friendly, respectful, open and honest. The teacher is accountable for knowing state licensing requirements, being familiar with National Association Education Young Children (NAEYC) DAP standards and Texas Rising Star (TSR) Program Standards.
Responsibilities of this position will include but are not necessarily limited to the following:
- Plan and engage children in developmentally appropriate activities
- Establish and follow daily schedule that incorporates child directed activity, whole group, small group, care routines and transition times;
- Creating and maintaining an environment that is clean, organized, and safe for all children;
- Prepare weekly lesson plans and submit to Director for approval by Friday;
- Plan and prepare materials before activities;
- Encourage children's development in the areas of building self-confidence, problem solving, and taking responsibility for their actions;
- Assist children in expressing themselves by listening, responding to and asking open ended questions or comments that extend children’s conversations;
- Interact with each child on a daily basis through circle time, centers, snacks, lunchtime, playground, free play, etc.;
- Use variety of teaching strategies to include modeling, observing, questioning and being reflective with children;
- Encourage and assist children to practice self help daily;
- Appropriately supervise children while keeping them safe at all times;
- Provide positive guidelines such as redirecting, positive language, and positive reinforcement;
- Establish a professional rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service;
- Maintain regular observation and evaluation of children's development and progress;
- Conduct child assessments and facilitate parent-teacher conferences;
- Actively participate in all staff meetings, professional development days, teacher trainings, and workshops;
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to DFPS as specified in the Texas Family Code 261.101.
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Be CPR and First Aid certified or obtain certification upon hire
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Child Development Associate (CDA) (preferred)
- Meet standards for licensing requirements (finger printing, background checks, child abuse and other relevant training, etc.)
- 1 to 2 years of experience in early childhood classrooms or other settings with young children Bilingual (preferred)
- Knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practices (preferred)
- Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a group of children alone in a classroom
- Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and possibly carry children up to 50lbs
- Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences
