What are the responsibilities and job description for the Site Utilities Superintendent position at Premier Earthworks?
The Site Utilities Superintendent leads field crews in the installation of underground utilities, including water, sewer, storm drainage, gas, and electrical systems. This is a boots-on-the-ground position requiring strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to jobsite safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct daily field operations for underground utility installation.
- Work side-by-side with crews to install piping, structures, and connections.
- Ensure trenching, shoring, pipe laying, and backfilling are done correctly and safely.
- Lead safety meetings and enforce all jobsite safety requirements.
- Identify and resolve field issues quickly to keep work moving.
- Coordinate closely with foremen, equipment operators, subcontractors, and inspectors.
- Verify line and grade from project plans, using lasers and levels.
- Communicate directly with Project Managers regarding progress, delays, and manpower needs.
- Manage inspections, pressure testing, and utility tie-ins.
- Maintain accurate field logs, daily reports, and crew time sheets.
- Order materials and supplies needed for field work.
- Train and mentor crew members on best practices and safety standards.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of heavy civil/site utility construction experience.
- Proven ability to lead utility installation crews on active construction sites.
- Strong working knowledge of water, sewer, and storm drainage systems.
- Ability to read and interpret site plans, utility profiles, and shop drawings.
- Skilled in operating or coordinating heavy equipment (excavators, trenchers, loaders).
- OSHA 30 certification highly preferred.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- Ability to work long hours, weekends, and in varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time outdoor work at active construction sites.
- Exposure to extreme weather, mud, dust, heavy equipment, and trench hazards.
- Regular lifting of heavy materials, use of hand tools, and walking on uneven ground.
