What are the responsibilities and job description for the NP-NEUROSURGERY-HOS BASED-PPN position at Premier Health?
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse / PhysicIan Assistant
Mission : To extend appropriate Neurological coverage and visibility to patients and referring physicians within the Premier Health System according to guidelines set forth by The Clinical Neuroscience Institute (TCNI).
Professional Expectations:
The APRN/PA must honor the State of Ohio's APRN/PA guidelines and ethical commitment. All communication to include privacy and security of patient protected health information must be exercised at all times. The employee must perform all other duties as assigned.
Maintains professional rapport with hospital and allied health staff.
Complies with the Medical Staff Office regulations for performing principle duties and responsibilities.
Maintains and reviews Standard of Care Agreement (APRN) or Physician Supervisory Agreement (PA) with collaborating physician and the Medical Staff Office annually.
Prescribes medications in accordance with the Ohio Formulary for APRN/PA with a valid Certificate to Prescribe without the co-signature of collaborating physician.
Eight hours of stroke or cerebrovascular education annually
Develop and deliver acute stroke continuing education programs
Midlevel's working critical care will complete ENLS training/certification within 6 months of employment.
Specific Clinical Expectations:
Coverage - As the service requires. (Exempt Position)
· Work as a team within TCNI which may require coverage at various Premier Health locations.
· All inpatient consults will be promptly assessed and evaluated. Discussion with the responsible physician should follow shortly thereafter
· Other inpatient functions will include, but are not limited to:
o Discharge planning and implementation
o Assisting with documentation in Emergency settings
o Placing orders pre and post-operatively
o Performing thorough and complete neurological examinations on all patients and documenting this exam precisely
· Proactively expand knowledge of all service areas within Neuroscience
· Manage neurosurgical drains (lumbar, EV, etc.) as appropriate
· Maintain close communication with patient care team (Hospitalists, attending service, etc.)
· Communicate with physician on call regarding treatment plans (brief the physician on the rounds, imaging/test results, and exams). Once the care plan is determined, execute the plan accordingly
· Complete consult notes in timely fashion and when needed communicate with the referring physician to alert them of the care plan and when the note will be available in EPIC
· Support delivery of evidence based acute stroke assessment and management
· Provide expert nursing consultation and practice oversight
Quality
Participate in performance improvement processes
· Awareness of hospital specific performance improvement goals and documentation expectation to meet goals. Examples: Catheter Associated UTI, Surgical Care Improvement Project rates, Readmission and Length of Stay goals, Performance Measurement specific to stroke
Research
Participate in Comprehensive Stroke Center Research
· Complete necessary documentation and certifications to participate in research.
Maintain awareness of current research protocols and identify potential research candidates.
- Applicants must hold a Master's degree from an accredited NP / PA program.
- Applicant must be a certified CNS / NP / PA. Current State of Ohio licensure is required and should be maintained at all times.
- Certificate to Prescribe must be current and maintained at all times.
- A thorough understanding of HIPAA law is required and professional discretion must be demonstrated at all times.
- Applicant must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent communication skills with both patients and colleagues are essential.
- Computer literacy is required and must include Excel, Word and Outlook, and Electronic Medical Records experience is an advantage, preferably EPIC.
