What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator position at Premier Magnesia?
Under direction of the EHS Manager, this position will be responsible for maintenance and improvement of the safety mindset, culture and programs of the Repack Facility in Waynesville, NC of Premier Magnesia including Compliance with state and federal requirements, and company housekeeping and 5S initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, organize and implement/improve all site safety and housekeeping procedures, data collection, reporting
- Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics including monthly focal items, recent history, New Hire Orientation, Monthly Safety Meetings for all shifts
- Ability to work daily as a facilitator of change across all levels of the plant floor
- Continually evaluate overall site, and company safety needs, trends, etc. to improve our work environment and the safety conditions and activities of our employees
- Key member of Safety Committee
- Understands and ensure compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory requirements
- Own and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all materials coming into the facility
- Be the champion and leading example of safety in all activities
- Conduct daily walk-through of work areas and talk to the personnel to identify issues and concerns around safety
- Assist in emergency response and provide first aid guidance
- Manage facility workplace incident investigations to include responding to and reporting all incidents, incident investigations, root cause determinations, preventive plans and follow through activities to closure
- Ability to remain flexible and assist with activities required by various management activities as needed for overall organizational support
- Perform monthly inventory checks for First Aid supplies, monthly Fire Extinguisher checks, Spill kits, etc.
- Ability to observe floor conditions and write maintenance work orders for equipment, plant floor areas and warehouse areas that could potentially create a safety concern
Travel Requirements
Ability to travel 5% of the time, or as may be required.
Special Knowledge, Skills and Training:
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite particularly Excel and all spreadsheet applications and PowerPoint
- Demonstrated leadership and guidance of health and safety management with all levels of management
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to create various types of training materials based on organizational need including but not limited to multimedia visual aids and presentations, procedures, work instructions, process maps, etc.
- Conduct basic root cause analysis and corrective-preventive activities
- Ability to conduct, train and manage 5S plus Safety Audits and respective scheduling
- Detail oriented and highly self-motivated
- Must be self-driven requiring minimal supervision
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and collaborating working relationship with customer base
Education:
- Bachelors/Associates Degree in Business, Environmental Safety, Occupational/Industrial Hygiene or similar preferred
- 3 years EHS or Safety related experience in manufacturing required
- Professional certifications, including OHSA 10 / OSHA 30 preferred
