Controller

Responsibilities:

• Be part of the management team for a boutique commercial real estate firm.
• Oversee 2 AP/AR staff and all accounting operations, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including investor reports and compliance filings.
• Handle banking operations, including Positive Pay review, reconciliations, and fund transfers.
• Oversee management fee processing, payroll journal entries, and employee SIMPLE IRA contributions.
• Prepare and review quarterly loan compliance filings and coordinate tax-related activities with external accountants.
• Ensure compliance with property tax payments, sales tax remittances, and regulatory filings (e.g., SAM.gov, 1099 forms, annual business reports).
• Coordinate real estate tax bill reviews, investor distributions, and financial package preparation for ownership entities.
• Work closely with leadership to streamline accounting processes and improve financial reporting efficiency.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
• 7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in real estate or property management.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax compliance.
• Proficiency in accounting software and financial management tools (experience with Rent Manager, AvidXchange, and Agora is a plus).
• Exceptional attention to detail, ability to work independently, and strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
