Job Summary:
Contact Lens Technicians are responsible for performing a variety of ophthalmic tests, fits patients with appropriate contact lens and trains patient in the care and use of lenses.

Previous experience is not a requirement for the position as on the job training will be provided. This is an opportunity to embark on a life long career with an established medical practice. Responsibilities:
- Performs contact lens fittings and trains patients on the use and care of contact lenses.
- Instruct patients on proper insertion, removal, and care of contact lenses.
- Addresses and resolves patient problems or refers problems to supervisory personnel.
- Employs sterile technique methods at all times.
- Is knowledgeable of and efficiently operates the Company’s electronic medical records system without error.
- Writes fee tickets and charges for accessories using proper codes without error.
- Processes the returns of contact lenses as needed.
- Answers telephone calls from patients and assists patients as necessary.
- Orders departmental supplies and complies with the inventory control system.
- Sorts and delivers departmental mail.
- Monitors service agreements as necessary.
- May be required to work in other Premier clinic sites.
- Adheres to all relevant health and safety regulations and protocols.
- Responsible for knowing the work schedule, observing work hours and maintaining a good attendance record. (See attached attendance and punctuality requirements.)
- Attends in-service programs and maintains continuing education credits as required for certification.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients, customers, employees, supervisors, physicians and the public. Exemplifies the Company’s Five Star Program.
- Follows all corporate and departmental policies and procedures and complies with the Employee Handbook.
- Performs other tasks as needed or directed.
Skills:
- Reports directly to the Supervisor of Contact Lens.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; additional education or ophthalmic technology preferred.
- Requires at least 1 year of previous work experience. Previous experience in an optometry or ophthalmology setting, preferably with a focus on contact lens fitting and dispensing.
- Must have good manual dexterity for examining patients and operating equipment. Must be able to function in an office setting.
- Must be able to accurately transcribe information received from patients and tests without error.
- Physical activity involves keying, writing, grasping, reaching, carrying, looking, listening, talking, bending, lifting, sitting, standing, driving and much walking resulting in medium work.
- Medium - must be able to exert force to lift and carry from 20 to 50 pounds up to 10 feet occasionally, from 10 to 15 pounds of force up to 10 feet frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Must be able to walk, stand or sit to a significant degree depending on task requirements.
- Works in various office settings, which are well lighted, ventilated and temperature regulated. Travels from clinic to clinic as needed and directed by supervisors.
- Must be able to concentrate on work tasks amidst distractions, such as noise, conversations and foot traffic.
- Must be able to work in a confined area performing repetitive work for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to drive to different clinic sites.
- Must have responsible, ethical and professional manner with the ability to listen, learn, plan and organize.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with people of different races, sexes, ages and social classes.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
