SUMMARY OF JOB:
Performs a variety of diagnostic eye tests for the ophthalmologists.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs visual field, optic nerve analysis, A-scans, B-scans, keratometry (auto and manual) tests.
- Performs corneal topography, specular microscopy and interferometer tests.
- Prepares medical charts for physicians.
- Operates the automated refractors and lensometry (auto and manual) tests.
- Understands how to operate, repair, clean and maintain ophthalmic equipment.
- Is knowledgeable of and efficiently operates the Company’s electronic medical records system without error.
- Assists other clinical staff as directed.
- Travels to satellite offices with ophthalmic staff as needed.
- Is responsible for knowing the work schedule, observing work hours and maintaining a good attendance record. (See attached attendance and punctuality requirements.)
- Attends in service programs as directed.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients, physicians, supervisors, employees and the public. Exemplifies the Company’s Five Star Program.
- Follows all corporate and departmental policies and procedures and complies with the Employee Handbook.
- Performs other tasks as needed or directed.

DEGREE OF SUPERVISION:
Performs duties under direct and indirect general supervision.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Accountability: Reports directly to the Supervisor of Diagnostics.
- Education or Training: Must be a high school graduate or have earned a GED.
- Knowledge and Experience: Requires at least one year of work experience.
- Dexterity: Must have good manual dexterity for examining patients and operating equipment. Must be able to function in a clinical setting.
- Accuracy: Must be able to transcribe information received from physicians and patients, including insurance coverage, social security and telephone numbers without error.
- Physical Activity: Physical activity involves keying, reaching, carrying, looking, listening, talking, bending, lifting, standing, sitting, walking kneeling, stooping and grasping resulting in heavy work.
- Exertion Requirements: Heavy - exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently and 10 to 20 pounds of force regularly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects. Must be able to walk, stand or sit to a significant degree depending on task requirements.
- Working Conditions: Works in an office setting, which is well-lighted, ventilated and temperature regulated. Automobile travel may be required.
- Must be able to concentrate on work tasks amidst distractions, such as noise, conversations and foot traffic.
- Must be able to work in a confined area performing repetitive work for extended periods of time.
- Hazards or Risks: In office minimal.
- Worker Characteristics: Must have responsible, ethical and professional manner with the ability to listen and learn.
- Must be able to communicate with people of different races, sexes, ages and social classes.
- Non-performance Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license.
