JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Billing Specialist is a full-time position that reports to the Billing Team Lead of a primary/urgent care practice, and is responsible for billing/coding and submitting claims; following up on insurance claims, including resolving issues with insurance carriers and submitting appeals as needed; posting insurance and patient payments; collecting accounts receivable; and all other daily tasks related to a medical billing office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, as well as any other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned:
· Verify accuracy of patient demographics and insurance information/eligibility on claims to be billed
· Perform coding activities using ICD 10 and CPT codes to ensure successful processing and payment of claims; responsible for both electronic and manual claims submissions
· Resolve rejected, denied and no-response claims in a timely manner
· Post insurance payments from paper and electronic EOB’s
· Post patient payments, reconcile patient accounts and collect outstanding patient balances
· Assist Front Desk team with insurance related issues, as needed
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Observes strict patient confidentiality in dealing with patients
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
· Associates degree, preferably in Business Administration or related field; high school or equivalent degree required
· Two years medical coding/billing experience in an urgent/primary care setting preferred
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
· Must be detail oriented, conscientious and able to follow through
· Ability to deal in an organized manner with problems involving multiple variables within the scope of the position
· Ability to communicate effectively in writing, over the telephone, and in person with physicians, patients, insurers, team members and staff
· Ability to understand mathematical concepts and use fractions and percentages.
· Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with other team members, employees outside the team and patients
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
· Ability to recognize, evaluate, solve problems and correct errors
· Ability to work under minimum supervision and demonstrate strong initiative
· Proficient in using a Practice Management system and Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Excel, Word and Teams)

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
