As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly capable and strategic Director of Finance and Revenue Cycle to lead and optimize the financial health of the organization.
Position Overview
The Director of Finance and Revenue Cycle is responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and revenue cycle operations. This role is both strategic and operational. You will guide long-term financial decisions while ensuring efficient, compliant, and optimized billing and collections. The ideal candidate has deep experience in healthcare finance, revenue integrity, and team leadership, with a passion for driving measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Oversight
- Lead all aspects of financial planning, including forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management
- Develop and implement financial policies, systems, and controls
- Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting to leadership, identifying key trends and opportunities
- Partner with executive leadership to model business scenarios and evaluate growth initiatives
- Ensure accurate financial accounting in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
- Oversee practice profitability by analyzing margins by provider, location, and service line
Revenue Cycle Leadership
- Oversee the full revenue cycle: charge capture, coding, billing, claims management, collections, and denial resolution
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to ensure documentation and coding compliance
- Implement denial prevention strategies and improve collection efficiency across payers (commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, PI, and WC)
- Monitor and improve KPIs including days in AR, clean claim rate, first-pass resolution rate, and net collection rate
- Ensure payer credentialing is current and accurate across all providers and facilities
- Supervise internal billing staff or manage vendor billing relationships
Team & Operational Management
- Directly manage finance and revenue cycle teams, including analysts, billers, and support staff
- Provide leadership, training, and development to elevate team performance
- Implement and oversee financial software systems and integrations with EMRs and PM systems
- Collaborate across departments to ensure financial operations align with clinical goals
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure HIPAA, payer contract, and financial regulatory compliance
- Conduct periodic audits of coding, billing, and AR follow-up processes
- Identify and mitigate financial risks, including audit exposure and billing vulnerabilities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred)
- Minimum 8–10 years of progressive experience in healthcare finance and revenue cycle management
- Proven leadership in a multi-provider or multi-site specialty practice, surgical group, or healthcare system
- Strong understanding of payer reimbursement, EOB analysis, and denial management strategies
- Proficiency with financial reporting tools, Excel, and practice management software
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills
- Ability to communicate complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders
Preferred Experience
- Neurosurgery, orthopedic, or other surgical subspecialty practice experience
- Familiarity with personal injury (PI), workers' compensation (WC), and value-based care arrangements
- Experience optimizing revenue cycle processes via automation and analytics tools
