Title: Grinding Operator - Night shift -7PM to 7AM rotating

Job Summary:
The Grinding operator has the responsibility of maintaining and correcting both the grinding and mixing processes of the grinding machine, milled machine, dust collector and baghouses. The operator must work safely and ensure quality on the line assigned. This position takes direction from and reports directly to the Shift Supervisor.

Basic Duties and Task Statements:

Expectations:
* Work safely and ensure others in department are working safely

* Must be aware of and follow all safety policies and JSA’s, including personal protection equipment, lock-out/tag-out, housekeeping, MSDS, etc.

* Responsible to identify, report any work hazards, must eliminate hazards within ability.

* Responsible for running conditions of the extrusion machine including the laminating station and mixer/blending segments of the machine.

* Responsible to maintain all equipment by performing all required PM functions and reporting any equipment problems for repair.

* Responsible to assist in training of other operators working on the machine in product specifications, housekeeping standards and safety standards.

* Clean up, start up and shut down grinding equipment including grinders, augers, hoppers, baghouses and dust collectors.

* Must be able to accurately measure machine performance, scrap, waste, and downtime.

* Must be able to use a razor knife frequently and in a safe manner.

* Complete production reports and all paperwork as assigned

* Great attendance and punctuality required.

Essential Functions:
* Startup and shutdown all machinery as required.
* Monitor all machine process parameters.
* Adjust all machine process parameters as needed.
* Monitor, adjust and control material flow.
* Maintain and clean grinding and mixing area.
* Line out all production processes in a timely manner with minimal waste.
*Perform all required PM procedures: change filters, maintain oil and grease levels, check all safety switches and interlocks.

* Check silo levels and operations hourly to ensure they are functioning properly.

* Make certain that scrap material does not accumulate around the machine.

* Follow all lock out/tag out procedures.

* Follow all approved safety procedures.

* Maintain housekeeping. Clean area around machine daily.

* Shut down system following approved company procedures.

* Other tasks as identified by the shift supervisor and/or department manager

Marginal Functions:
* Ensure work is clean, neat, and orderly
* Do maintenance tasks as required.
* Cross-train with other positions to cover during vacations, illnesses.
* Backup and assist maintenance as directed
* Miscellaneous duties as directed by supervisor or Department Manager

Basic Competencies:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required
  • A minimum of 1 year of verifiable experience in manufacturing.
  • Ability to work in a self sustaining role & be self motivated
  • Ability to work with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Must demonstrate mechanical ability to work with equipment during training period.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures
  • Normal Dexterity & Climbing Requirements
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, 12 times per hour
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, 12 times per hour
  • Ability to lift 70 pounds, infrequently
  • Basic computer skills – data entry and process control inputs and monitors.

Language skills:
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating manuals, maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
* Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
* Ability to converse with other employees or customers concerning operating functions.

Mathematical Skills:
* Ability to apply concepts of percentages, fractions, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction.

Reasoning Ability:
* Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
* Ability to deal with problems having limited information available in standardized situations.

The employee must use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee must reach with hands and arms and will frequently be required to use a razor knife to cut material. The employee must have the ability to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.

-Employee must be able to frequently operate a forklift in a safe manner.

* Mechanical Knowledge is a huge Plus!

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Conditions in summer can be extremely hot and uncomfortable. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in this work environment is usually very loud.

Compensation / Benefits :

  • Starting pay varies and is based on experience in manufacturing and grinding.
  • Employees can accrue up to 112 hours of PTO per year.

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
