Summary: Assist Operations with inventory management and operation of the plant’s work-in-process, as well as assist with the plant’s re-mill system.  Communicates with Operations and the Materials Manager to ensure that optimal inventory management decisions are being made.

Analyzes the work-in-process and finished goods inventory situation to provide recommendations and, as appropriate, to assist in inventory management decisions.

Manages activities of the Department through a subordinate supervisor concerned with ordering, receiving, storing, inventorying, issuing, and shipping materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and parts, in the stockroom, warehouse, or yard by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Communicates with Operations and the Materials Manager to ensure that optimal inventory management decisions are being made.
  •  Analyzes the bin inventory situation to provide recommendations and, as appropriate, to assist in inventory management decisions.
  • Required to follow all Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Plans layout of stockroom, warehouse, and other storage areas, considering turnover, size, weight, and related factors of items stored.
  • Advises employees on care and preservation of items received, stored, and shipped; methods and use of equipment in handling, storing, maintaining, and shipping stock; and related problems.
  • Studies record and recommends remedial actions for reported non-usable stock.
  • Reviews records for accuracy of information and compliance with established procedures, and to determine adequacy of stock levels.
  • Schedules work for special and periodic inventories.
  • Traces the history of items to determine reasons for discrepancies between inventory and stock control records and recommends remedial actions to resolve discrepancies.
  • Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.
  • Issues written and oral instructions.
  • Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve the efficiency of subordinates.
  • Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
  • Prepares composite reports from individual reports of subordinates.
  • Adjust errors and complaints.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities                                                    

Directly supervises 7 to 10 employees in the Plant Bin System. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience                                                   

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills                                                

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills                                                     

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
