We are seeking a Financial Manager to oversee the financial operations of our Residential and Commercial Plumbing Company based in Tampa, Florida. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing all financial aspects of our business, ensuring the smooth and efficient handling of our financial processes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Record-Keeping & Reporting
Maintain accurate financial data in QuickBooks, including bank transaction entries and vendor/customer invoices.
Reconcile bank and credit card statements monthly.
Prepare and present monthly financial statements (P&L Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
2. Accounts Receivable & Payable Management
Oversee A/R by monitoring overdue accounts, preparing A/R aging reports, and coordinating collection efforts.
Manage A/P by ensuring vendor bills are tracked, scheduled, and paid on time.
Produce A/P aging reports and maintain strong relationships with vendors.
3. Budgeting & Forecasting
Collaborate with senior management to develop annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
Analyze variances between budget vs. actuals and provide recommendations for improvement.
4. Internal Controls & Compliance
Ensure effective internal controls are in place to safeguard company assets (e.g., proper segregation of duties for check signing, A/P approvals).
Oversee sales tax and other regulatory filings.
Coordinate with external accountants or auditors for year-end reviews and tax preparation.
5. Strategic Financial Insight
Provide cost-saving and profitability recommendations based on monthly performance data.
Work closely with project estimators, operations, and marketing teams to improve job costing, pricing strategies, and client retention efforts.
6. Collaboration & Communication
Serve as the financial liaison between management, field operations, and external stakeholders (CPAs, banks, vendors).
Present complex financial information in clear, actionable terms.
7. Monthly Meeting Leadership & Financial Analysis
Cash Flow, A/R, and A/P Meeting:
- Provide updated aging reports, cash flow forecasts, and reconciliation summaries.
- Lead discussion on overdue accounts, upcoming payments, and cash planning.
Completed Commercial Jobs Review:
- Prepare joblevel P&L analyses comparing estimated vs. actual costs and revenues.
- Identify and present outliers (underperforming or highmargin jobs) and recommend improvements.
Commercial & Residential Service Financial/Marketing Impact Meeting:
- Discuss monthly financial performance of service lines
Budgeting
- Create and maintain a budget vs actual reporting and meet with management on a monthly basis to ensure the company is on track.
Profit and Loss
- Meet with executives monthly to review the prior months P&L statements, balance sheet and YTD P&L.
- Review all statements prior to so you have a deep understanding and present ideas/solutions for areas where the company can improve it’s financial stability
Note: This position does not involve processing payroll, but you will coordinate with our office manager provider to ensure accurate accounting entries and compliance with payroll-related obligations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred, but not required).
- 3 years of accounting experience, ideally in a construction, service, or trades environment.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks (Desktop or Online) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and timemanagement skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate with nonfinancial stakeholders.
- Detailoriented with the ability to see the “big picture” and provide strategic insight.
- Familiarity with job costing or projectbased accounting a plus.
- Knowledge of the plumbing, construction, or home services industry is preferred, but not required.
