The Billing Specialist is fully responsible for the billing, reconciliation, and collections for assigned payors.
Primary Responsibilities Include
- Investigating and determining financial status and/or insurance coverage of prospective residents who are applying for admission, preparing documents to substantiate findings, advising admissions staff regarding eligibility when needed, and is responsibility for census coordination with admissions and accuracy of assignment of residents into various payor categories.
- Responsibility for the preparation, accuracy and timely submission of monthly bills according to applicable regulations and policies.
- Taking appropriate collection actions for delinquent accounts, preparing collection reports, and evaluating the effectiveness of current collection policies and procedures.
- Identifying uncollectible accounts and preparing a monthly report of these accounts for review by the Resident Account Manager.
- Staying informed and up to date on current law and government insurance regulations as they pertain to reimbursement for Long Term Health Care facilities.
- Compiling and preparing information and reports necessary for bad debt allowances and other audit needs as requested.
- Determining when transfers and adjustments are necessary, completing all necessary transfers and adjustments and maintaining accurate and complete records of these.
- Responsibility for the accuracy and timeliness of data entered in the billing system.
- Taking appropriate actions to meet the goals established by the Resident Account Manager for cash flow and the level of outstanding receivables.
- Performing other business office related duties as needed or requested.

- Have a one-year certificate from college or technical school; or at least one year related billing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Private pay billing experience is preferred.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office and billing software.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
